Could it be that every time you start your NAS it commences processe(s) that is slowing the machine down? Disk checking, media indexing, etc. Why not just leave it on? Generally NAS is not an on/off device imo.

No, nothing is running in the background. Like I said, it's very strange. The reduction in the data rate only occurs after the start times have been changed; before that everything works as it should.

Limited testing here, but it does appear correct. Transfer speed reduces from approx 110MBps to the order of 25MBps once timed shut down/boot times are entered.

It does not seem to matter if the power on/off schedule is enabled or not. It is the physical entry of DATE/TIMES that affect the transfer speed.

TM support please verify at your end and report/take action. Thanks.

(I am using Win 10 Pro as my computer source for transfers with SMB 3.)

Can you tell us the specific way you transfer the data? We will try to verify this problem.

I copy the data to a directory on the NAS using Windows Explorer. I also tried uploading the data directly to the NAS using File Explorer, but the result was the same. The data rate was only around 22Mb/s.

SMB doesn't activate after reboot on F4-220, TOS 5.1.41
After every reboot I have to activate SMB manually.

The device reboot is not going to change the SMB configuration
But thanks for the feedback, we will look into this in our lab.

I've been struggling with this recent slow SMB transfer speed (e.g., ~20-25MB/s) for a while now and thought I'd tried everything. Transfers might briefly starting at 100MB/s+ but would quickly drop to the consistently slower speed and stay there for the remainder. This is for a single, fairly large test file about 23GB in size.

After the recent posts in this thread about scheduled shut down / power on times possibly being the cause, I recognized that I have schedules for that on both of my F5-221's. This was something I started doing a while back to help reduce the amount of ARP flooding originating from both of my F5-221's, which is still not resolved.

In any event, this morning I removed the shut down / power on schedules on both NAS and restarted them.
Now SMB transfers are starting at 100MB/s or more and either staying there, or periodically dropping to no less than 85MB/s.

So:
- THANK YOU to whoever discovered this, and
- TM, there is definitely something about having scheduled tasks configured in Control Panel / Hardware & Power / Power / Power On/Off Schedule (and perhaps other types of scheduled tasks) that is causing SMB transfers to be dramatically slower than they should be.
