Can anyone clarify if the USB 2.5G network adapter is backward compatible with USB 2.0 host interfaces on the 220 series and 420 series TNAS, and is it essential to connect it to a USB 3.0 host port for optimal bandwidth, as mentioned in the note?

Thinking about getting the 2.5GB/USB adapter for my F5-221 NAS. It currently is running TOS 4.2.44. Is there anything special I need to do to get it working?? Is it "plug-and-play" or do I need to follow a specific series of steps to get it installed properly?? Thanks . . .

The drivers are integrated into TOS, so it is plug&play if you're purchasing the TerraMaster branded one.
If you buy a different one & want it to work, you'd have to buy a Realtek 8156B based adapter & reflash it; follow this thread @
viewtopic.php?f=82&t=5257 if you go that route (
obviously, no guarantees offered).

The USB 2.5G network adapter is probably backward compatible with USB 2.0, but the performance will be limited by slow transfer speed of USB 2.0. For optimal bandwidth, it is recommended to connect it to the USB 3.0 host port.

Using usb 2.5gbe adapter connecting from pc usb 3 to 1gbe switch then at lower ethernet port of f2-223, working well for a month of usage, transfer speed steady 115MBps, tos 6.0.610.
Initially same setup with tos 6, no ethernet connection between pc n f2-223. Finally learned to setup proper 250.250.250.0, instead at 250.250.0.0, by using usb wifi dongle for knowing correct settings with windows 11 ethernet setup.
Current issue is could not get high transfer rate 280MBps using pc existing 2.5gbe port connecting to unit top 2.5gbe ethernet port, remains at 115 MBps.
Earlier, with tos 5, pc 2.5geb n unit 2.5gbe top port, using usb wifi dongle for internet connection, easily getting a long line of 280MBps files tranfer rate. Will sort out with TM.
