Post by OllieHardy »

Hi,

I downloaded TNAS PC relevant version for the install, TNAS PC is now working on my windows laptop. I updated the Nas to TOS5 and was asked to create a 'SuperUser' name and password, which I have done.

I was then asked to verify the account by entering a passcode which should have been sent to my emails. This never arrived, not even in my junk folders, so i proceeded with the install and it seemed to work temporarily, however now my TNAS PC is not detecting my NAS on the network. I have reset the NAS by turning on and off again, I have disabled all firewalls to enable detection, but it is not displaying.

Please help

Have you tried rebooting your router?

@Tricky

I believe the bootloader is your issue, The Terramaster has a small usb flash drive (Watch this video and you can just see it at around the 8 minute mark (Board marked USB 1). This usb drive boots up the NAS.
When you initialise, the NAS will connect to the internet and download a new bootloader to the USB drive. So make sure your NAS has internet connectivity. If you have connectivity to the net from your NAS, then it might be the USB/Flash drive, take a read here viewtopic.php?f=76&t=1455

Good luck

It sounds like your NAS has not got an IP address from your Router (I guess you had DHCP setup on the NAS), you need an app that can scan your network to see if its there, or try logging into your router and looking for the client list (I suspect it wont be listed but you might be lucky and if for example your network uses 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254 then your NAS suddenly gone for 169.1.1.2 ) if it has a second network port connect that to your switch/router. ) On the Mac I use Lanscan to scan my network.

So remedy:
1. Try connecting any other ethernet ports on the NAS to your Router/Switch and see if that works
2. Connect the NAS directly to your computer via ethernet and see if it then appears.
3. Reinstall. The email does take a minute or so to appear when you setup.

I have had these kind of issues on every NAS I have owned (I have had a few lol). Good luck

I beta tested TOS 5, for ages, got fed up with a few issues, reverted to TOS 4 and planned to sell it as I have a QNAP and bought a Synology. (I work overseas do need access to Plex ) . Installed release version TOS5 a few days ago while on vacation and its good. No bugs so far

I have what they call "The NAS Bug" i.e. I have tried the lot from Freenas, Nas4free (now Xigmanas), Openmediavault (my favourite up until V5), Synology (very impressive software), Xpenology and finally Terramaster ( the worst of the lot).

The couple of things I like about Terramaster (especially the F5-221) is the construction, very solid, and the quiteness, and the fact that you can remove the USB micro stick inside and replace with whatever OS you like. I ran Xpenology 6.23 for a while.
