And what hinders me to simply throw my F2-420 HDD in and simply run the (new) F2-423 on TOS4 then?
(one has to wonder why there is no simple, step by step manual for such a case...)

If the TOS4 system on the HDDs is still intact, then you can just put the HDDs directly into the F4-423 to boot and continue running TOS4.
Please note that the boot system on F4-423 is different from that of F2-420. In case if you plan to reset the system later, please contact us in advance to discuss the solution, as it may reset your HDDs partition and lose data.
