Re: F4-424 Pro TOS on the SSD Instead of HDD After Factory Reset

Maybe you can install TOS 5 with two HDDs, then update TOS 6, and shut down after the update is successful.
Once NVMe is installed, boot up again and you can create the Hyper Cache.
If you also want to recreate a new array using HDD, you can delete volumes and pools directly from the control panel and then recreate them without the need for a third-party application to format the hard drive.
Of course, if you transfer data before recreating the array, make a backup.

Hi @TMRyan!

I understand when you say "you can delete volumes and pools directly from the control panel and then recreate them without the need for a third-party application" is not necessary connecto to another machine for delete and clean the actual RAID. Thank you for your suggest.

And when you say "Maybe you can install TOS 5 with two HDDs..." I understand that you are referring to install the TOS on nvme HDDs, is it right? Only one question: If the HDDs (mechanical) already have the actual "Volume1" created, once connected again, could it generate a conflict?

Another question: If I use the 2 nvme slots for create a volume and install the TOS, (as I have read on the forum) I can't use it also for Magic Cache, is it right? Perhaps I could use only one nvme slot for create the volume + TOS and use the second nvme slot for cache, but I will loss the RAID on the nvme slots.

Thanks!

Hello!

Your understanding is correct. If the HDDs already have a "Volume1" and the NVMe drives also have a "Volume1" after reinstalling the system, a conflict will definitely occur.

Regarding the other issue you mentioned, it is possible to install the system and create a volume on one NVMe drive while using the other NVMe drive as a cache. However, this configuration does not support Magic Cache. During the system installation, select only one NVMe drive for the installation, and use the other as a cache. Please note, as you have surmised, that doing this means you will lose RAID functionality on the NVMe slots.

Hi @TMQiuMoer!

Thank you for you clear answers.

One of the advantages I have is that I don't have any information on the TNAS yet. I was just "playing" around to understand and find the most ideal configuration for me. If I destroy the current RAID I will only have the inconvenience of the time it will take to rebuild it.

Thanks again!
