just wanted to say thanks for posting this.
I used this a few years ago but since that pc I was VMing on died, i haven't found a replacement that i liked.
i think i am missing a small detain on file permission,

I am sure I am just missing a step somewhereCannot access /mnt/backups. No such file or directory (code: 2)

i got it to work, by making another folder and switching it to that.
