Thank you very much for the detailed guide and for taking this issue seriously. I have now completed both recommended steps and wanted to update you.

**1. BIOS update — done.**
I followed the guide (FAT32 USB, all storage removed, flashed via HDMI). The update completed successfully. Verified in BIOS Setup:
- BIOS Version: BJFX-ADLN-109
- Build Date and Time: 12/15/2025 16:14:28
(Previous version was MADN0101.V07, build 11/15/2024.)

Image

**2. Kernel boot parameter — done.**
Confirmed the idle driver first:
- cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuidle/current_driver -> intel_idle

So the system is now running exactly per your recommendations: updated BIOS + C-state limiting at the kernel level.

I'll report back with the results. If the freezes stop, that confirms the fix; if they persist despite the updated BIOS and the kernel C-state limit, I assume the next step would be to look at other hardware factors (e.g. a full MemTest86 pass on the RAM), and I'd welcome your guidance at that point.

Thank you again for your continued support.
F4-424 - 2x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid + 1x8TB (WD Red)
TOS: 7.0.0746

Thank you for your help and guideline. I also successfully made the modifications.
BIOS updated to BJFX-ADLN-109 and kernel parameter intel_idle.max_cstate=1 applied to both boot disks. After reboot, C-state output shows only POLL — C1E, C6, C8, C10 completely gone. Monitoring for stability. Will report back.

gabor@TNAS:~# for c in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu[0-9]*; do echo "==================== $(basename $c) ===================="; for s in $c/cpuidle/state*; do echo "$(cat $s/name): usage=$(cat $s/usage), time=$(cat $s/time)"; done; echo; done

Code: Select all

==================== cpu0 ====================
POLL: usage=429217, time=96739979
==================== cpu1 ====================
POLL: usage=420671, time=94242920
==================== cpu2 ====================
POLL: usage=440831, time=98504574
==================== cpu3 ====================
POLL: usage=445463, time=98816693
BIOS Information

Code: Select all

        Version: BJFX-ADLN-109
        Release Date: 11/15/2024

Debug mode has been successfully enabled.

One question: is it safe to update TOS now, or will a TOS update overwrite the grub.cfg and remove the intel_idle.max_cstate=1 parameter? Should we reapply it manually after every TOS update?

Is said fix applicable to the rest of the (non-pro) 424 series N95 based TNAS devices?

Due to general activity on these units, haven't experienced the issue yet, however would prefer to implement these fixes as a precaution/preventative measure.

Please advise.
