Hi, team,
I have set up my T12-500 Pro and am in the process of transferring data over to it. For reasons I won't bore you with, but just in case relevant, this is being done by copying from an external Seagate drive plugged into the NAS via USB.
Overnight, I have received a notification from the system that "The fan speed is abnormal. Please check for blockages or malfunctions in the fan" and woke to find the system beeping away with an alert.
I can't seem to find any more information about this issue to help me figure out what's wrong.
IN the NAS dashboard, the system is running smoothly, the fan icon is green and shows spinning between 1100 and 1500 rpm. The disk temperatures are possibly slightly on the high side - one was at 45 degrees but has since dropped a bit - but otherwise OK. Visually, I can see the three fans on the back of the unit spinning.
I don't want to open the unit up if posisble, as am in the middle of a large copy job. Is there anyway to get more information about what has gone wrong? A log that specifies the exact issue and fan?
Thanks in advance.
[Help] Fan Speed is Abnormal
Re: [Help] Fan Speed is Abnormal
I would suspect an anomaly. I have seen it once before (but not on a multi-fan model). What I think is that if the fan is in auto and it "goes to sleep", it forgets itself and that message is all it has to respond with. Don't know which version of TOS you are on, but later version have had some optimisation although I still don't trust "auto" entirely and tend to run on a fixed speed, particularly in summer and in the warmer environments.

Re: [Help] Fan Speed is Abnormal
It might be that the fan touched an internal cable, causing abnormal rotation speed. If you observe that the current three fans are rotating normally without obstruction, you can turn off the beeper alarm. Wait for data transmission to complete before turning on the NAS to confirm.
By the way, what version of the system are you currently running?

Re: [Help] Fan Speed is Abnormal
Thanks for the responses, both.
I'm on TOS 6.0.770-00002.
I haven't received any further notifications since this morning, which I guess would have happened if there was a recurring physical obstruction (like a cable)?
ETA: to Gremlin's comment, my fan setting is on Auto.
