Hi,
I've never carried out a major update before so am looking for some advice on how best to progress with the upgrade from TOS 5.1.67 to TOS 6.0.530
I have 2 x 4TB drives in TRAID.
How should I proceed without risking any data loss?
Thanks

Re: [Help]F4-423 - Update TOS 5.1.67 To TOS 6
First thing, you need to be doing a full data backup to a secondary solution (external drive, second NAS, cloud service, et cetera) before starting anything, just as a precaution for data integrity.
On your current 5.1.× unit came from a previously upgraded TOS 4.×/5.× build(s), verify that the “/” volume under Control Panel → System Info → Overview is 7+ GB; if it is not, you cannot continue with an upgrade path/method & will need to use the clean installation which is what this post is regarding @ viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4912.

Thanks.
Since I have to back everything up I may just go ahead and do a clean install anyway.
It’s mostly just used for Plex so not a lot of configuring to be done

Re: [Help]F4-423 - Update TOS 5.1.67 To TOS 6
Hi, I'm using Tos 5.1.145 / 5.19. I have four single-disk volumes on my F3-423. If I install Tos 6 on the first one (nvme 128gb), will the other three disks be recognized? Is it the same format?
Re: [Help]F4-423 - Update TOS 5.1.67 To TOS 6
You can first upgrade to version 6.0.530, then upgrade to the latest TOS 6 system. The upgrade will not affect the normal recognition of the hard drive.

Re: [Help]F4-423 - Update TOS 5.1.67 To TOS 6
Thanks for the info.
To summarize, all three volumes will be recognized with the data, so no backup is necessary on these three hard drives.
Backup only on Volume 1, update to 6.0.530 and then the latest.

Re: [Help]F4-423 - Update TOS 5.1.67 To TOS 6
HI, I have a F4-423 model, BTRFS, one volume (7.6 TB used of 13.62 TB), TOS 5.1.67, BIOS 5.19. I can not upgrate to TOS 6.0.530. I upload the image (downloaded twice to be sure), it uploads to the NAS ok; then it says it is updating, then 40% then it says "update failed"...
I now realize that THOUGH my NAS says the 5.1.67 *is the latest* firmware, on the website there is the more recent one! I am updating at this moment to the 5.1.145
To run SMOOTHLY as it should, on the existent and support models, the NAS itself should see the 5.1.145 and offer to update!
I recommend thath, here in the Forum, administrators put an indication that the 5.1.145 is an OPTIONAL firmware and the NAS itself does not see it, so people will have to update it manually and then to the TOS 6. I know that it states that, it is a requirement but I still do not understand why the automatic search from the NAS does not see it...
I made all updates:
- 5.1.67 to 5.1.145 (manually)
- then from 5.1.145 to 6.0.530 (manually)
- now to the latest one (through the NAS itself)
and everything went smooth. My units on BTRFS seem to be working fine. The UI is ABSURDLY faster than the 5.1.x one!!!!

Re: [Help]F4-423 - Update TOS 5.1.67 To TOS 6
FYI Tos5.1 was apparently never intended to be 'pushed'. Since the major change of the o/s partition to 8GB (nominal) required manual intervention, pushing the update could have resulted in many more 'failed' updates due to users not understanding/following the procedure. As it is, there were probably scores of users who attempted to install later versions of 5.1 without the o/s partition update. (We'll never know the true scale because people don't, usually, publicise their failures).
The update might possibly have been handled better (like checking for the 8GB partition) but that is 'water under the bridge' now.
