[Help] How to replace a not-yet-failed HDD?

Post by Myrddid »

Hi,

I have an F2-221 NAS with TOS 6 and a TRAID configuration.
I've got a warning about 2 bad sectors in one disk: to avoid any risks I would like to replace the warned disk... is it too early? If it's not, how could I replace it? I can find instructions only about replace an already-failed disk...

Thanks everybody

For the safety of your data, it is recommended that you replace the risk of hard disk as soon as possible. Are you using two hard disk components for the TRAID? What are the sizes of the two plates? Which disk is out of order?

I use two 4TB hard disks, the one in bay 1 has the two bad sectors, but they are both system disks in a TRAID storage pool.

In a RAID1 system I assume that I can simply mark one disk as "failed" and replace it, then the system should allow the new disk to be part of the RAID... am I wrong? Is TRAID the same thing?

Like RAID1 and RAID5, TRAID also has one level of redundancy. You can perform similar operations on TRAID.

I've already seen these instructions, but my RAID is not degraded yet... Should I still follow the instructions for "Repair RAID"?

Hi, after you pull out the not-yet-failed disk, the RAID will go into degraded state, and then t you can insert a new HDD to repair it.

Well, I correctly replaced failed hdd, system has completed synchronization, but now only the old hdd is labelled as system disk, before both hdd's were. Plus, new hdd seems not to have a File System: only sda4 reports "RAID member lacking an independent file system".
What's wrong?

I think that is an issue that @TM are working on. (Or, should be.)

I really hope so. I hope that someone from TM answer this post, it's not acceptable to have only one system disk in a RAID array... what if that disk failed?

It is only the operating system that changes. It does not affect any data file system array. You can manage system configuration backups (for restore) and re-installation of the os is relatively simple in most cases.
