First Experiences with F5-221

Hey everyone. I'm new to TerraMaster, and new to home NAS in general (not new to the concepts, just owning hardware of my own), and just wanted to say that so far (fingers crossed, knock on wood, <insert un-jinxing method here>) my experience has been fantastic.

Setup was a breeze, all three times I went through it (I went through a few different disk configurations, no TerraMaster related issues), and when I finally got things running the way I wanted them, data copy from my USB hard drive couldn't be simpler. In fact, I had read about how some people needed to use the USB Copy utility to properly get their data loaded, but I've found (again, so far) that the best experience was a copy/paste through file manager.

I won't bore you all with the details, but I did want to share, at least from first impressions, that I'm really happy I went with TerraMaster over Synology and QNAP for my first NAS. I know, there will be a ton of functionality missing, and maybe in the future as I look to expand what my NAS is doing for me, I'll feel it... but for now, I'm really happy with the value for my purchase, I'm really happy with my initial experience, and I'm looking forward to reading/contributing, and hopefully getting to know a few of you here on the forums.

Quick follow up:
- All my data transferred without issue. In fact, I even experienced a freak 2 minute power outage in my house where the NAS power was cut, and when it boot back up it was like nothing happened. I'm super impressed with that alone.
- Plex install was simple. Configuration was like any other Plex. Filesystem is pretty straight forward, and Plex catalogued my files WAY faster than my previous PC I was using.

At every turn, this NAS exceeds my expectations.

My pleasure! I saw a lot of "This doesn't work..." and "This is broken..." type posts, which are extremely useful and valid, but decided I'd start off by posting about my great experience, and what I like so far.

For example, my first use of a Docker container. I've never used them on any other system before, but I have Sabnzbd running with almost 0 effort. I did have to poke around a bit to understand how the bridged networking works, and the forwarded ports, but once I did it was easy. The one other piece that I figured out fairly quickly, was how to look at the docs of the docker container to understand how to specify the mount points properly so that the app uses them and doesn't put everything into AppData. I even tried running BIND DNS in a docker container, which worked as long as I mapped the external/internal ports both to 53 - but I couldn't get the forwarders working properly. I'll play with that more another day
