Hey Gremlin, thanks for your post, but that does not help.

Changing coresize in /etc/tos.conf to 8GB indeed helped to make the second partition larger during the setup process.

Code: Select all

[admin@TNAS-138E ~]$ parted /dev/sda
GNU Parted 3.2
Using /dev/sda
Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
(parted) p
Model: ATA WDC WD120EFAX-68 (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 12.0TB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B
Partition Table: gpt
Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size File system Name Flags
1 1049kB 300MB 299MB ext4 primary
2 300MB 8899MB 8599MB ext4 primary
3 8899MB 9923MB 1023MB primary
4 9923MB 12.0TB 12.0TB primary
Unfortunately, installing TOS 5 still didn't work. The installer hangs at unzipping the package.

@TMzethar: What to try next?

Could you please have a look and maybe discuss with the developers if they can fix it?

Strange, how do you confirm that you have deleted the partitions? Please provide a screenshot.
If you have correctly deleted the partitions, you may need to make an appointment for remote assistance through the official website customer service window or technical support email.

Hey thanks for getting back to me. Here is the screenshot after I followed the instructions from the first thread post:
Screenshot_20240304_182114_PartitionsDeleted.png
After installing TOS_X642.0_5.0.176_00227_2210111430 I got: - web access not possible - ssh access not possible Next: - Removed disk - Restart NAS and wait for init mode - insert disk and ssh to NAS - result:

Code: Select all

Using /dev/sdb
Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
(parted) p
p
Model: ATA WDC WD120EFAX-68 (scsi)
Disk /dev/sdb: 12.0TB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B
Partition Table: gpt
Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size File system Name Flags
1 1049kB 300MB 299MB ext4 primary
2 300MB 2348MB 2048MB ext4 primary
3 2348MB 3372MB 1024MB primary
4 3372MB 12.0TB 12.0TB primary
But even increasing 2nd partition size by temporary change to /etc/tos.conf (coresize=8192) did not help.

:?: What's the proper way, to install the 5.1.47 bootloader offered at the download site (common_bootloader_V5.1.47.img)?

Solution 2 is exactly what I did. Solution 1 does not work, because the partition is too small.

Would it help to install common_bootloader_V5.1.47.img? How to do that?

This is not helpful in realizing your idea.
If you want to install a new partition to adapt to TOS5, it is recommended that you back up your data and delete the partition.

I would suggest that in the case of several attempts to install/re-install/update, the better way is to backup data and then completely wipe/secure erase the drives concerned. A simple "delete the partition" may not be sufficient. (which partition for a start?) Even simply deleting ALL the partitions may leave behind some unintended information on the drive. I noticed that in the previous posts, one shows the ('parted') output from /dev/sda while another is for /dev/sdb. I suspect that these multiple operations may have left conflicting data on different drives. (I remember this being pointed out to me from one of my early support logs - different drives with different partition sizes.) I also noted that the 'parted' output also indicates a swap size of only 1GB. I was under the impression that a 'proper' install of TOS5 would force a swap partition of 2GB. [I know the swap size should be immaterial, but it is another consideration in an otherwise confused scenario.]

Sorry. My previous post was intended for @TMzether. The quoting carried forward the earlier @uasdfnasfdj. (Silly forum @_button antics! )
