[SOLVED] D6-320 NOT Connecting (Linux Mint 21)

Post by somedudeinaz »

Since apparently I can't edit the original thread...viewtopic.php?t=5824

That thread concluded that my unit was DOA and so I returned it to amazon. Well, the new unit arrived along with a new toy...

Hardware:

1) D6-320
2) USB cable (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VY1BN48?ps ... ct_details)
3) Powered USB Hub (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CB82NR5C?ps ... ct_details) - I needed a hub anyway so why not try...
4) Same USB ports used as described in original post.

test 1: D6-320 w/TM cable: Powered on, drives seen, all is well - :D

test 2: D6-320 w/3rd party usb cable: Powered on, no drives seen :( :x

test 3: D6-320 w/3rd party usb cable AND USB Hub: Powered on, drives seen, all is well - :D

test 4: D6-320 w/TM cable AND USB Hub: Powered on, drives seen, all is well - :D

The USB cable (ULT-WIIQ) I have is the full 3m length. Works fine in other applications, so this might be an edge case. Or it burns just a tad too much juice for the ASMedia chipset to handle. I may experiment with other cables in the future. I've got a bunch around here somewhere...after all it could just be the length.

Was the first unit truly broken? Probably, in that it didn't matter what USB port or cable I used. Since I didn't have the hub at the time I couldn't test it.

Thanks to the following forum users for their posts which helped me figure this out:

[at=hornseye post_id=32759 time=1706188035 user_id=8659][/at]: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=5717#p32759

And for the sake of completeness here's the dmesg log. Interestingly, the Serial Number reported by dmesg is NOT the one on the unit. Since that's the same as the SN reported with the other unit I can only assume it's the serial for something internal to my PC.

As soon as you @ another user, formatting goes haywire.

It's always been an issue on this forum & its forum solution (phpbb).
