Default Gateway of the two ports ethernet

Post by GacqueLaColline »

Hello,
On the two port port ethernet in static ip, the value of the default gateway seems forced.

example :
Lan 1, ip 192.168.0.30, default gateway 192.168.0.1
Lan 2, ip 192.168.0.31, default gateway 192.168.0.1

For the Lan 2, if i put default gateway 192.168.0.30 (ip adress of Lan1), the default gateway after save is forced at 192.168.0.1

Why ? on many network card you can set any value you like.

Hello, I think the behavior you described, where the default gateway value is forced to 192.168.0.1 despite attempting to set it differently, could be due to the specific configuration or limitations of the network setup on your NAS device (F2-423) running TOS Version 5.1.79. While it is common for network cards to allow users to set any desired default gateway value, certain devices or firmware may have restrictions or predefined settings in place.

In your case, it seems that the NAS device is enforcing the default gateway value of 192.168.0.1 for both LAN 1 and LAN 2 interfaces. This could be a deliberate design choice by the device manufacturer or a limitation imposed by the firmware/software running on the NAS.

Why would you want to do this? You have put both Lan ports on the same network segment (192.168.0.*). TNAS does have the ability to 'auto-sense' where the greater 'www' actually is located. (It will show your external wan ip somewhere). It can be presumed that your network gateway IS 192.168.0.1 - which is a common default router lan address. In any case (as far as I am aware) TNAS does not have any routing functions built in.
