Raid of One 18TB & One 12TB, Accessing the Remaining Space of the 18TB

Post by toyssamurai »

This is the first time I use a NAS, and I am still learning. Here's my question:

After the the auto initialization, a RAID was created from my 18TB & 12TB drives. The resulting volume is 10.9TB. I assumed that the 12TB is fully utilized already as the RAID volume should be based on the smaller of the two drives. But is there any way I can make use of the remaining free space of the 18TB drive? I can't find a way to create a separate volume out of that drive.

Sorry - as it stands currently, that's the way it is. Raid is a fickle bedfellow. :)

Possibly you could do it if you are willing to drop to the command line. You would basically need to create logical volume that pointed to the unused space. I personally would not risk my data to do so.
