Moving Files resulted in excess capacity used?

Post by Someguy »

Recently, I backed-up and reinstalled TOS 5 onto my F4-423. I migrated the files over the past two or three days, and the data used has added up around the file sizes of what I transferred until now. Earlier today, I moved 2.4 TBs of files, but due to an error, very early in the operation, I canceled the move twice, then moved once more successfully.

Now, my "Volume 1" shows 15.69 TBs of storage used.

When I check my actual, accessible files, they take up just a little bit over 10.4 TB. From the file browser, there are not any clear sources of where the extra 5~ TBs are at. I don't know if this might be from a snapshot/back-up I can't see, or if there's something else going on.

Should I be going into ssh to view the root "Volume 1" folder to see what's hiding there, and if I can account for it there? When I look at a break down of the volume via Usage Detail, nearly the entire set of data is located in "Others," but that includes the 10.4 accounted for in my directory.

What's going on?

If the capacity is in "other", it is likely to be a snapshot.
You can log in to ssh and run du -sh /Volume1/*
to view the volume 1 folder's occupied capacity.
