Everyone but me got a response.....UncleJohnsBand wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023, 07:41 So the note above has me confused when looking at the steps....
Note: Do not delete the four partitions that are not displayed, this is USB InitBoot, which is used to boot and install TOS.
Below is what I see from the ls /dev/sd* command. Are you just saying with that note to only delete the 1-4 partitions on the SDA drive?
/dev/sda /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb4 /dev/sdc2 /dev/sdd
/dev/sda1 /dev/sda4 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc /dev/sdc3 /dev/sdd1
/dev/sda2 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb3 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdc4
For me SDA and SDB are my paired 3gb drives I use for my raid.
SDC is a stand alone SDD.
SDD is my connected 1TB USB drive that my data is currently backed up to.
Just looking to make sure if I have to do SDA and SDB or just SDA and will by SDC (SDD) drive remain ok through this and will the SDC (USB) be fine as well since that is where the data is I need to restore.
Please advise.

Re: Do not meet the conditions for updating the TOS 5.1.40 version?
It is frustrating. I upgraded to a F4-421 to use the new TOS 5.1. My former NAS was an Terramaster ARM which couldn't be upgraded to TOS 5. Unfortunateley my System Partition is 2GB because the initial system was version 4...... I don't want to newly set up my NAS every time there is a new version. To make a backup and then restore all my data is really time consuming (Copy all data 2 times, new RAID sync etc) In my Ubuntu Desktop System it's super easy to resize partitions via gparted. Why isn't that possible with the Terramster partitions???? Is there maybe any possibility to do that?
Maybe it's also possible to boot the system via the USB ports and put the system partion on a usb drive?
I only used 3 HDDs. So I have a spare slot. Maybe it could be possible to move the system partition to a new HDD and install that?
@Terramaster Support: Please help, I want future updates. The 5.1.40 has some improvements (HDD energy mode) I really nedd.

Read the previous thread for 5.1.37 @ viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4733&start=90
This is an issue that several manufacturers eventually run into & there is no quick fix for it.
There's really is no way around this, you will need to start from scratch to increase the system partition to support future builds with the existing 5.1.× kernel.Re: Do not meet the conditions for updating the TOS 5.1.40 version?
I'm curious. If you upgraded NAS in order to use 5.1 why didn't you install 5.1 from the outset? (Then your partitions would be of the appropriate size.)
"Really need" or "want"?The 5.1.40 has some improvements (HDD energy mode) I really nedd.

Hi TM team,
Thanks a lot for posting this guide!
I was waiting for this. Before I understood what to do but now this guide helps me to understand HOW to do it. I particularly like the option with SSH + parted as I'm currently limited with other possibilities.

Re: Do not meet the conditions for updating the TOS 5.1.40 version?
First I had a F2-220 an then I bought a new F4-421. It was delieveres with version 4 and so I had to install/upgrade to 5.1. Unfortunateley I did this via the WebIF, so the system partition wasn't resized.
What about my question if I move the System Partition to an external USB via ssh login and change the boot loader for /dev/sd(whatever)? I read that it is possible to install Debian or FreeNAS this way. Why isn't it possible to install the TerrmasterOS to an external USB drive?
And yes: I need the working HDD Energy Mode - Even if I don't access my NAS for hours there is noise from the HDDs (no indexing and no DLNA activated)

Re: Do not meet the conditions for updating the TOS 5.1.40 version?
Their initboot only allows for installation to SATA or NVMe storage, as it likely doesn't detect USB storage during the TNAS initialization wizard.
If you want to try to see if it will work externally, initialize with a blank single SATA drive internally, then pull that drive, insert it into an external enclosure and connect it via usb, see if the TNAS boots into TOS or back into the TNAS initialization wizard; it should be the latter.
TNAS devices with ×86/×64 SoCs are just specialized desktop computers & can take any compatible operating system.

Hi
I have a F2-220 with two 2GB discs sda and sdb.
Do I have to delete the partitions from both discs separately?
This is my ls output:
Both, sda and sdb, have the same partition tables. Here is the output for sda:

The boot procedure is done via BIOS/EFI so it should be possible to boot from an external USB.
According to

Isn't it possible to flash the 5.1.40 on a USB device and change the boot order in the EFI / BIOS to USB? Maybe I could even copy my existing 5.1.37 system partition to an USB Stick and start from that stick.
@Terramaster Support: Is this possible?
