If you think it's an internal USB boot disk issue, you can try disassembling the device, attempting to reseat or permanently remove it, and see if it can solve the problem

Hi Mzethar, thank you so much for your reply, I'm fairly sure it's the internal USB boot disk, during the brief moments the drive is viewable the contents of it is as shown here

, let me know if you agree that this is what it is if you could. If I permanently remove it will I have to purchase a new one? What is the best way to go about this? Since updating to TOS5 I'm getting literally hundreds of notifications a day via email, despite disabling all notifications so it's starting to drive me a little mad!

It is not recommended that you delete the contents inside. You need to shut down the device, remove the device casing, (it is inside the device), unplug or reinsert the USB, and keep it safe after unplugging, because it will be needed for subsequent system upgrades or system installations.

If you don't want to do this, you can open the general settings of the control panel, open the notification module, and uncheck the notification content of "system event".

Hi, okay that all sounds fine, I unplugged the USB and reinserted it into the other available internal USB slot. The notifications have stopped but I also can no longer see the drive at all, not that I really care about seeing it. I will just place it back in the other slot whenever I need to perform system upgrades etc! I've tested it and the external drive I tried to use before is now no longer being disconnected alongside the boot drive, thank you all very much for your help. :D
