[Help] Update to 7 fails at 'Unzipping' stage!

Post by DarthLuca »

I have a new F2-425 with a new 6GB Barracuda disk. Running (or trying to...see also current problem email) TOS 6. As this is not working (100% load all the time, 0x8007003b errors in windows file transfers), I thought I would update to TOS 7 (It can't be any worse - can it!?).
Anyway, the TOS 7 update fails at the "Unzipping the software package - Please wait!" stage. After about 15mins+ shows "Failed to update".
Is there a way to unzip manually and bypass this stage?
Tomorrow I will likely be returning the F2-425 box as "faulty - doesn't work", which I don't really want to do, so any help appreciated.

Ok, an Update. After about 3/4 hour, I returned to the system to try and copy 1 file so I could watch a film through Plex.
Somehow the system updated to TOS 7 in the background. No progress report, no nothing, but now suddenly it is running 7.0. Ok fair enough, magic is magic! However after copying the one file (which sort of worked - Sat at 100% for a couple of mins, but otherwise quick). The system is was showing 100% load again! This has just dropped off. Not sure WHAT is going on with this system?? The only odd? thing I can see is that the setup shows TRAID even though I only have the one disk. Is this normal, could it cause the massive slow downs?
As I say, any help appreciated...

PS. Only other thing I noticed under TOS7 is that the drive I have installed is in bay2, could that cause issues??

What is your Barracuda model? Some SMR hard drives are incompatible. This has nothing to do with the order of the slots where the hard drives are located. A single hard drive configured as TRAID is equivalent to single mode, which is normal.

The drive is a ST6000DM003. Which would appear to use SMR technology. And I'm guessing is NOT compatible. It does not seem to appear on the list of compatible drives and I guess would explain the issues I have been having.
