Stuck at TOS 6.0.229

Post by duranoid »

Hello,

I've seen on the forum that are available new versions of the TOS6 OS but I'm stuck at the 6.0.229 on my F4-423. The "Check for Updates Now" button always told me that I have the latest version.

What should I do ?

PS previously I had QNAP NAS and at least every month an update was available and I never had issues.

Once you get past Beta releases, Tos6 will provide updates as and when.
Go to the Updates thread and check update to 6.0.530. viewtopic.php?t=6809
Check the details and warnings are appropriate for your model/version.

TY very much Gremlin,

I read all the 16 pages thread for the 6.0.530. I saw that it's written that all configuration data will be erased. I had a very bad experience with a previous TOS beta where after the update I cannot login anymore with my admin credentials and unfortunately I lost all my data (I got the support of TM engineers but doesn't help). so I'm a little bit frightened.

In this update the admin credentials to login in the web browser TOS6 login page will remain the same after the reboot of the system ? Any major risk to avoid ?

PS it seems that I have the prerequisites for the upgrade: F4-423 with TOS 6.0.229. I just have to erase the Hypercache it seems..

As far as the admin credentials, I have always stuck with using the same as I used in beta versions etc through all the iterations and have not had too much bother. But, to be fair, I have only done this on a test machine and have been prepared to do complete re-installs - so my viewpoint may be dissimilar to others. In reading the whole thread, beware of the 'lost all my data' comments without adequate backup info. I regard them as suspect.

6.0.229 is a early beta version, as the root file system changed during this period, so, now Update from 6.0.229 to 6.0.530 will erase your system configuration, including hypercache, but this will not effect to your data on volumes. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Just a quick update

I've prepared for the NAS upgrade following the instructions provided by TM so in my case:
- Rechecked requirements
- Did a backup of data (luckily I found an USB external device with enough storage, connected it to the NAS and copied sone TB of data at an average speed of 100Mbps)
- Deleted the Hypercache
- Downloaded the latest version of TNAS PC (in case the IP address changed)

I've installed manually the TOS 6.0.530 version.

The system rebooted and asked for a admin username and password (as expected the configuration was lost). I've inserted the old admin username and password so the system booted up (and all the clients using those credentials worked after the upgrade). At the beginning I had no Storage Pool and no Volumes. After a few minutes appeared both the storage pool and the Volume 1.

The storage pool indicated an error. Disks were recognized and healthy.

I've then updated to the latest version (this time proposed by the system) TOS 6.0.577. Rebooted and the error on the storage pool disappeared.

I then recreate my Hypercache.

Plex Server/client/mobile app was already working without loss of any metadata.

Everything is working as expected.

TY Terramaster and Gremlin for the support.

Hi, I've had the same problem and what frustrates me is that the 'Check for Updates' feature doesn't seem to work properly. I found the easiest way to fix it is to go to the TOS homepage, find the latest update for F4-423, and download it. Then you just upload it in the system manager. I don't know why I didn't get an automatic notification, but try this and you might find the new version you need. Try to check their website regularly so you don't miss any updates!

It was quite deliberate, so not an issue. TOS5 and 6Beta would be a problem for users attempting to update if the o/s partition was too small (for example, there were other reasons). Hence, all those updates were intentionally designed to be 'manual' which (one presumes) would make user actually check the warnings and conditions for each update. Sadly, we know too many users did not (and still don't) do that :(
