I suspect that TNAS may have encountered a hardware problem, how can I confirm it?

Post by TMzethar »

troubleshooting

Applicable Model
All x86 series models

Phenomenon
Some users encounter failures during use and think it is possible or after some investigations that it is more likely to be a device problem, but they cannot be sure.

Countermeasures
Based on the feedback from users and the observation and analysis of some user equipment, we have summarized the types and causes of failures. This guide article can help you judge whether your TNAS hardware is still healthy, and Introduce the corresponding solutions.

1. Is there a beep when you turn on the device?

If yes, the device is probably good, proceed to step 2.

If not, please take out the battery of the device, connect the positive and negative terminals of the battery holder with iron wire for 10 seconds, then assemble the device.

Try to start TNAS again, if there is a beep, it means the device is still normal, please go to step 2.
If there is still no beep, the device is damaged.

2. Start TNAS without any hard disk installed, and wait for 1-3 minutes.
Can you find the TNAS with TNAS PC and successfully open the initialization web page?

If you can find it and open the initialization web page, it means that the USB boot system is also normal, and the problem probably exists on the TOS system in the hard disk. At this point you can try to reinstall TOS to resolve:

If this does not work, try re-burning the USB boot system:(Choose the correct burning method from the following two methods according to your device model)
220/420/221/421/422/:
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=1455
223/423:
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=3684
viewtopic.php?t=6433
Then start TNAS again without any hard drive installed. If you still does not open the initialization page, the device is corrupt.

The TerraMaster F4-425 Plus won't boot—the power LED lights up, the case fan turns on, but the NAS doesn't boot. I connected a monitor, but nothing is output, no signal is coming in, and the network indicators aren't lit. I tried leaving both the network (internet) and the monitor connected for about 30 minutes—it still won't boot. The power button turns off if you hold it down for more than 5-10 seconds, and pressing it once doesn't do anything. Please help. Perhaps you've experienced this before and have a solution. I suspect the BIOS is faulty. I found BIOS F8_SSD_Plus_MADN0301.V07.zip here on the forum, but it doesn't work for me. I couldn't find one for the F4-425 Plus.

If there is no display output on the monitor after powering on the F4-425 Plus device, the corresponding BIOS we provide cannot be updated. You can try the following steps: first, remove the battery from the motherboard, then short the two ends of the battery holder to clear the CMOS settings. If the issue persists after performing these steps, it is highly likely that there is a hardware failure on the motherboard. In this case, you will need to apply for repair service following the after-sales process.

I think I have a similar problem here.

I have a brand new F2-424. In the first week, I decided to upgrade the memory and install an NVMe drive, but it didn't work. I removed the NVMe drive and reinstalled the original memory. Now the NAS won't turn on. When I press the power button, it doesn't turn on, and no lights come on, neither network nor power... the only light that comes on is when I press the reset button on the motherboard, but I've tried holding it for 10, 15, or even 30 seconds and it didn't work. I also tried resetting the BIOS, as mentioned here, but that didn't work either.

The only cables I keep connected during my tests are the power cable, the HDMI cable, and the network cable. I performed some tests with the power supply using a multimeter, and it indicates 12V, which seems to be correct.

Please, if anyone can help me or offer guidance, it would be a great help, as I'm in Brazil, and there's no Terramaster support here.

Please first reinstall the original memory module into the device and then power it on to check if the device can boot up normally. If you replace the memory, please wait patiently for 2-5 minutes after powering on, as the BIOS needs to perform an adaptation verification process after the memory is replaced, which may take some time.
