Why is TNAS abnormal after adding or replacing RAM stick?

Post by TMzethar »

Applicable model:
F2-423、F4-423
U4-423、U8-423
T6-423、T9-423、T12-423

Fault phenomenon:
The TNAS model 423 is equipped with two DDR4 SODIMM memory sockets and an official original RAM stick by default. Theoretically, the RAM can be expanded to 32 GB (16 GB+16 GB) at most. Some customers reported that the RAM sticks could not be used normally after being added or replaced. After troubleshooting and confirmation, the following three phenomena can be summarized:
1. After replacing or adding the RAM stick, the system will emit the "tick tick" alarm continuously after starting up.
2. After replacing or adding RAM stick, there is no response after power on.
3. Repeated automatic restart occurs after replacing or adding RAM stick.

Failure causes and countermeasures:
1. After replacing or adding the RAM stick, the system will emit the "tick tick" alarm continuously after starting up.
Cause: The RAM stick may be faulty or not installed in place.
Countermeasures:
① It may not be installed properly. Please hold the dents on both sides of the memory, snap the RAM stick into the tooth position at a 45 ° alignment gap and send it into the memory slot, and then gently press it until you hear a clear "click".
② It may be that the golden finger of the RAM stick is oxidized. Please use a rubber to gently wipe the golden finger of the RAM stick.
③ The RAM stick or the memory slot on the motherboard may be damaged. You can put the original RAM stick into another slot to try and see if it is powered on normally.

2. After replacing or adding RAM stick, there is no response after power on.
Cause: After the RAM stick is replaced for the first time, the BIOS of the motherboard needs a certain time to check the RAM information. After replacing the RAM stick, it is unnecessary to calibrate the RAM after the second boot.
Countermeasures: Please wait patiently. You will hear a beep in about 5 minutes, and the TNAS device starts normally.

3. Repeated automatic restart occurs after replacing or adding RAM stick.
Cause: The RAM is a key component of NAS. Unverified and incompatible memory may cause the system to crash or even cause the system to fail to start normally.
Countermeasures: To ensure the hardware quality and use experience, it is recommended to use the RAM stick officially designated by TerraMater.

Matters needing attention:
When installing RAM stick for F series 423 TNAS, only 6 screws at the fan of the machine need to be removed (4 screws at the bottom of the machine do not need to be removed)
