I suggest to leave this post for other to read the warnings, if you consider the post offensive as I added some 3rd party
software alternatives, please edit them out but leave the warnings about CPU temps and the respective settings... It will prevent some cooked machines!

+1 Not working List:
Kingston KVR32S22S8/16 16GB X8 1R 16Gbit DDR4 3200 Mhz
This will be my last module that I tested and it's not working, no need to go further as I already settled on a config.
Terramaster contacted me to offer a complimentary 4GB Ram and they went silent for 2 weeks after the initial email. My return window closes on Nov 2, I even considered sending back the machine, but I love the hardware format. I'll keep it, but the whole experience was such a dissapointment.

Decided to keep these last modules and although I really like TOS I completely moved to a 3rd party OS.

I checked between:
Open Media Vault : + for home use, - ugly interface, Traditional Raid, + FREE.
True Nas Scale: - Enterprise use, + Superb interface + ZFS, -- USB drives are basically not supported, Needs SSD boot drive, preferably mirrored, - Very high ram usage, + FREE.
UnRaid: +Home Use, + nice customisable interface, + Docker App Store, runs from USB 32GB, low Ram Usage, knows how to use SSD cache, super Virtualization options, + Can Mix Drive sizes, - PAID.
I settled on Unraid and it does all that TOS did and even more, but, TOS is simple, great looking and just what i needed for home. It's such a shame to leave TOS behind. It was PERFECT for my use.

Now I have the following config and everything works as expected.
1x Verbatim Store 'n' Stay Nano USB 3.0 32GB (BOOT)
2x 16GB Kingston KVR32S22S8/16 RAM
2x 512GB SSD Samsung 970 EVO, BTRFS cache Raid 1
2x 10TB WD White Labels Helium Drives, BTRFS Parrity + Data.

On the software side I basically mimicked my TOS build with Surveilance, Transmission, UPS and MySql support.
Of course a lot of extras are available now, but nowhere as easy as TOS. You need at least medium knowldegde and it's not for the average user.

It's such a shame as probably some users will go this route, as basically the machine will cook itself without properly set up PWM fan curves in bios and warranty returns will become an issue even if they decide to keep the machines.

FYI what I selected, and it mimics exactly how TOS worked,
1200 Low , 1500 Med , 1800+ High, and it all works in a nice curve, no steps (thanks god I didn't had to use a script and is supported directly in the BIOS)

Fan: Automatic
Start: 16 deg
Minimum: 30 deg
Max: 60 Deg
PWM curve 8 (if lower the fan is not able to keep up with the CPU heating up)
F2-423 proudly running UnRaid
1x Verbatim Store 'n' Stay Nano USB 3.0 32GB (BOOT)
2x 16GB Kingston KVR32S22S8/16 RAM (blocked by Terramaster)
2x 512GB SSD Samsung 970 EVO, BTRFS cache Raid 1
2x 10TB WD White Labels Helium Drives, BTRFS Parrity + Data.

Just tried with:
- HyperX HX426S15IB2/8 (8Gb 2666)
- Samsung M471A5244CB0-CTD (4Gb 2666)
- Mushkin MES4S240HF8G (8Gb 2400)

And nothing worked, after a three long beeps system is restarting. The device is f2-423, TOS 5.0.176

I just purchased an f2-423 NAS with the intention to upgrade the RAM and just found out about this unfortunate situation. This is a bad business practice and bad look for TerraMaster. I will most likely end up returning the NAS. If you are going to disable support for all memory modules but the ones you sell for a 400% mark up, you should make note of this on your store pages. No other NAS company is doing this.

I hope you reconsider this poor decision to take advantage of your customers and roll back this change.

We have been discussing it for a long time now and with what result? Not a single word from terramaster! This shows their seriousness. We just have to abandon terramaster and take advantage of slightly more open systems in these days of offers. In the meantime, let's try to make ourselves heard here too viewtopic.php?f=82&t=3890. And above all, let's abandon terramaster!

This is amazingly shortsighted of TerraMaster. They have grown their marketshare on the back of being the more affordable hardware platform.

Charging 560% more than other vendors for identical RAM means I'll be returning my purchase unless they reverse course.

I tried the exact same memory as ClaudioCroce62 on my F2-220 TOS 5.0.17. RAM doesn't work for me! :x
I've tried many, including:
Crucial CT102464BF160B DDR3L 1.35V 1333MHZ 2GB
Crucial RAM CT4G3S1339M 4GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9
Rasalas 4GB PC3L 12800S DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM RAM 2rx8 DDR3l-1600 PC3-12800 1.35V CL11
And others that I can't remember now unfortunately.
None that work!!
It's obscene from TerraMaster. And what's worse, that none of the staff says anything in this thread!!
But I noticed one thing, I hope someone can verify:
when you turn on the nas it seems that a hardware check is done to check if everything is fine: if ok, continue the boot procedure otherwise it crashes. With the ram not working when I start the nas it turns on (the LEDs light up) then it turns off for 1/2 seconds, then it turns on again and the HDD LEDs remain red (this is the boot with new ram https://s9.gifyu.com/images/ram.gif ). Without ram none of this happens (this is the boot without ram https://s9.gifyu.com/images/No-ram.gif ). Has anyone noticed this? I think it's all at the BIOS level, otherwise I don't understand all this. I will definitely never buy TerraMaster again and will definitely not recommend it to anyone. It is only good for the price.
Is there somone???

According to this article: https://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hard ... 4-423-nas/ Neo Forza DDR4 SODIMMs (model NMSO416F82-3200EA10) work fine with f4-423 and TOS5. Can anyone confirm this?
