CISA warning on TerraMaster NAS

I am using a Firewalla Gold in router mode on my network, but wonder if adding a VPN would also be needed? Would I need to add a constant VPN to the Firewalla and would that block me from accessing files from the NAS while streaming from my ipad or other devices on my network?

It's likely a typo, they should have meant to type CVE which is an abbreviation for Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures.
