[Help] Win11 VM - Screen Res Stuck at 1200x800

Post by wobaby »

G'day all,

Just setup my F8 SDD plus (coming from HP Gen8 Microserver and unraid)
TOS 7 from day 1. Got the igpu passing straight through to jellyfin docker.

Now onto Win11 VM (Ghostepctre compact edition)
Tried Virto-win-gtx64.msi driver
and then
usbmmidd_v2

https://www.amyuni.com/downloads/usbmmidd_v2.zip
Download, extract, then in an admin command prompt:
deviceinstaller64 install usbmmidd.inf usbmmidd
Then run:
deviceinstaller64 enableidd 1

No luck - shows 2nd screen - but wont survive a reboot.

doesnt want to change res for screen 1
Can't change windows to show screen 2 only. Screen freezes in noVNC.

Win 11 simply Greyed out at 1200x800 in Display Settings
VM Setup is....
Video Card - VGA
Machine type - Q35
Storage type - Sata Controller
Firmware - UEFI
Serial port - Disable
Virtual USB Controller - USB3.0
USB Device - Disabled

Windows is happy - just poor screen res.
Ill take any advice here, Cheers lads!

Thank you for your feedback!

We tested this in our local environment and were unable to reproduce the issue.

We recommend using an official Microsoft Windows 11 ISO image rather than a modified/compact edition, and following our guide to recreate the virtual machine: https://help.terra-master.com/faq/TNAS/ ... al-machine

Thankyou for the reply Eric... I understand your response for majority of F8 plus users. But, thats a hard no thankyou for me.

Got it sorted.
1. Downloaded this -> https://fedorapeople.org/groups/virt/vi ... .1-302.zip
2. Extracted the zip to folder of choice.
3. Opened up Device manager , Display Adapters , Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
Right clicked and chose - Update Driver - Browsed to "Extracted folder" as per above in step 2.
Let windows search through subfolders. It found QEMU driver on its own.

RedHat Inc. 22/7/2026
100.103.104.30200

1920x1080 no issue.
