Expanding storage on RAID 1 D2-310

I wanted to check the following in relation to usage of the D2-310.

I currently have 2x 2TB drives in a RAID 1 setup connected on USB to a Linux single board computer (odroid).

If I want to upgrade my storage capacity can I take out a 2TB drive and replace with a bigger one e.g. 4TB? Will the RAID rebuild on the 4TB?

If I then replace the remaining 2TB drive with another 4TB drive presumably that will then rebuild on to that too? Will the final RAID drive(s) end up with just a 2TB partition though?

Further questions...

Does the fresh drive get automatically formatted and the rebuild happen automatically? How do I know it's happening and when it's finished?

Is there any way of checking the health status of the drives in the enclosure?

Thank you.

Hi bbdcl,
As D2-310 adopts a hardware RAID controller, the RAID capacity online expansion does not work there. So you can't get bigger capacity by replacing a hard drive with bigger size after the raid been set.

Ok, thank you. So, to confirm I would need to put in 2x new 4TB drives , create an empty RAID and then copy files from old 2TB drive to the new RAID?

Think I saw in another post that there is no way to check the drive health of the drives in the enclosure. Is that right?

Yeah, you need to create a new raid with new drive.

Here are some tools to check the drive health, hopefully one of them is helpful for you.
