D5-300C NAS hard drive bay - where are the plastic strips?

Post by mike2k21 »

So I bought a D5-300C unit which is 5 bay for backup purposes and populated it with Seagate Ironwolf Pro drives.

They aren't totally snug once they are in the NAS - the bracket can actually move up and down a bit. So my concern is this give and vibration. I noticed that the hard drive brackets do not come with those plastic attachments that run along the top and the bottom (don't know what they are called, I have pictures below). I have a QNAP NAS that has these which are used for securing both the drive to the bracket, but it also keeps it snug in the NAS as there are thin film metal wedges that push out and keep them snug.

Here is what my TerraMaster bracket looks like:

Here what the QNAP bracket looks like, with the extra plastic piece that goes on the top and bottom:

This is what the QNAP looks like with it attached. Notice the two wedges sticking out - those keep the drives snug and help with vibration - this is what the TerraMaster is lacking.
