D5 - Disks not hibernating. / disk noise

Post by edgley »

Ive set it to 10 minutes, however, the disks are still spinning.

The really strange thing is that when it is in idle, it makes a loud noise.
However, when I copy data to it, the whole thing becomes silent!

Got to find a way of dealing with the noise, its just too much to have sitting next to my machine.
Given that it is silent when copying, there has to be a way to make it quiet when its not doing anything!

Hello, D5-330 sleeps with the PC. When your PC shuts down/sleeps, D5-330 enters the sleep state.

Some enterprise-level HDDs will make a sound when they are idle, but they will not make a sound when working. This is an HDD problem and we cannot help you solve it. General enterprise-level HDDs will have some sound.

Well, I have a Mac, and those discs don't sleep.

also, please note that I stated when the HDD are in use they are almost silent.
it is only when they are idle there is noise.

Which, I've managed to fix.
if one turns the unit on its side so the big yellow sticker is face down, the unit is silent.
Result!

if the following services are running, they may prevent your hard disks from going into hibernation.

1. Apps: If you have installed Apps from App Central such as XBMC, Plex, UPnP Server, iTunes Server,

Dropbox, Owncloud, or Surveillance Center. These Apps might scan or sync files/content in the

background all the time or regularly, preventing disk hibernation.

2. Download Center: If Download Center is continually downloading files from internet, it will continue to

access hard disks.

3. Windows Services: If your NAS has been joined to Active Directory (AD) or the Local Master browser

has been enabled.

4. Client PCs/Macs with mapped share folders from the NAS.

5. Utilities: ASUSTOR Control Center, Backup Plan, Download Assistant. These PC utilities may keep

checking for the existence of your NAS preventing it from entering into hibernation.

If you wish to know which process keep accessing your disks, please kindly refer the graphic below and use the diagnostic tool to check.

well you should try this method maybe it will work for you
thanks me later.....
