I have problems updating Plex on my F4-220 NAS - it remains at version 1.14.1.5488 despite TOS stating the version should be 1.20.5.3600.
I'm looking to update since many clients (TV, PS4, etc.) complain that the PMS version is not supported.
Within TOS, it doesn't have an 'Update' option, but I've tried uninstalling and re-installing but hasn't helped.
I've also manually updated TOS to the latest update (4.1.30), from 3.x earlier today - but that didn't make any difference either.
I can see that the latest modified date of the downloaded plex.bz2 file is 20 Dec 2018, so in theory should be the latest, however the running processes themselves mention 1.14.1.5488:
Running processes from SSH terminal:
[root@storage-3 /]# ps -ef | grep plex
root 1976 5163 0 21:21 pts/0 00:00:00 grep plex
plex 29140 1 1 21:15 ? 00:00:04 /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server
plex 29330 29140 2 21:15 ? 00:00:08 Plex Plug-in [com.plexapp.system] /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-ins-cc260c476/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Versions/2/Python/bootstrap.py --server-version 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476 /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-ins-cc260c476/System.bundle
plex 29479 29140 0 21:15 ? 00:00:00 /mnt/md0/application/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex DLNA Server
plex 29480 29140 0 21:15 ? 00:00:00 /mnt/md0/application/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Tuner Service /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Tuner/Private /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Tuner/Shared 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476 32600 /waitmutex
...
As you can see below, fresh download of the plex.bz2 file suggests it was created 20 Dec 2018, which matches what the TOS 'Applications' view states:
[root@storage-3 /]# ll /mnt/md0/application/pkgs/
total 189M
drwxrwxrwx 5 root root 4.0K Dec 22 21:13 .
drwxrwxrwx 7 root root 4.0K Dec 22 17:44 ..
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4.0K Dec 22 21:13 plex
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 95M Dec 20 2018 plex.bz2
Any ideas on how to fix, please? Does this require me to 'reset to factory settings'?
Thanks in advance.
F4-220: Plex stuck on versionn 1.14 (cannot upgrade)
Re: F4-220: Plex stuck on versionn 1.14 (cannot upgrade)
Further information after checking the /tmp directory for anything which may suggest why TOS is downloading an old version.
There is a /tmp/wget-plex file which has the following content:
$ cat /tmp/wget-plex
--2020-12-22 21:11:37-- http://dl.terra-master.com/cn/TOS5.0CJ/plex.bz2
Resolving dl.terra-master.com... 47.246.47.176
Connecting to dl.terra-master.com|47.246.47.176|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response...
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Tengine
So it looks like my NAS is downloading the Plex bundle from http://dl.terra-master.com/cn/TOS5.0CJ/plex.bz2, which is either the 1.14 version of the app, or something else is cached on the file system which is influencing TOS in thinking that it is the old version. There isn't anything I can see in the Plex download which suggests which version it is.
Thanks.

I am having the exact same issue. It was working now every device says the version on the nas needs to be updated.

Re: F4-220: Plex stuck on versionn 1.14 (cannot upgrade)
I am experiencing this issue as well. TOS states version at 1.21.1.3842 yet the Plex settings says 1.14.1.5488 and my devices are prompting me to update the Plex installation
Re: F4-220: Plex stuck on versionn 1.14 (cannot upgrade)
Just wanted to provide an update on this.
TerraMaster support reached out to provide assistance, requesting I used TeamViewer to allow access to my NAS so that they could debug the issue.
Unfortunately, due to timezone differences, I was reluctant to arrange a time. That was on me.
However, a few weeks ago I noticed that the issue was fixed, and my NAS was able to download v1.21 of Plex Media Server via the TOS web application. It installed without any problems.
However, I am noticing a significant issue with regards to transcoding an DLNA. I've disabled transcoding, but when the DLNA server is enabled the device becomes unresponsive after a while. I did manage to SSH on to the box to check cpu and memory usage at one point, and noticed the Plex DLNA Server was using 85% of the 2GB or RAM available (or thereabouts). It could be a memory leak with Plex DLNA, or perhaps the newer version requires more memory. If anybody reading this has any info, please share.
Thanks to TerraMaster support for reaching out and ultimately resolving the upgrade issue.
