How to migrate from icloud and google photo to NAS?  [SOLVED]

Post by alexich »

Hi All, could you please advice me how can I move all my data from clouds (iphone+icloud and samsung+google photo)?

I tried to do that with TNAS Mobile 3 app. But seems that this app has issue if you want to transfer significant number of files. this issue is:
1. You start backup in app. it goes well for a while
2. then system send app to backup (power safe) mode or how to call that
3. after you open app again, it does search, comparing and transfering files again, but error 2004 appears in statistic and it doesnt send files to NAS folder any more. Just increase file count 1000, 1001, 1002 etc, but error in statistic
4. I reinstall app and it starts file transfering normally again for 10-15-20 minutes and the same issue appears after app goes to "background" mode

So the question is - how can i transfer all my data from the clouds to my personal NAS?
I downloaded all photos from icloud and gphoto to PC directly (special bunch download option to zip archive).
"
The next question is ... if I copy all photos now from PC to NAS via SMB/FTP to NAS Folder (let's say "aphoto" folder name for apple icloud and "gphoto" for google photo). And after that set this folder as a backup folder in TNAS MOBILE 3 app on phone. in this case, will tnas mobile app see all photos in NAS folders and understand that nothing to copy more and will send only new files to NAS then?

Could I have this as a workaround?

Guys, honestly, after the cloud experiance (apple and google), TNAS Mobile app functionality looks very poor and unstable. Please help to solve that.

Forgot to mention - after migration from icloud and google to yandex disk, I will configure cloud sync (hopefully it works fine. will share results later on) and pull all data from yandex cloud to local NAS

Hello, thank you for your feedback. If your photos are stored on iCloud, the TNAS mobile 3 app may not be able to directly access them. We will further verify this situation.Meanwhile, regarding the error 2004 you mentioned, we will also investigate it. You can try keeping the TNAS mobile 3 app in the foreground for an extended period to observe whether the error occurs again.

When performing backups, TNAS mobile automatically creates a backup folder named after the username and phone brand, for example, Album Backup_test_Samsung. For Android users, it further creates subfolders within this backup folder that correspond to the album names on the phone, such as Album Backup_test_Samsung/Camera. For iPhone users, however, only a single folder named Album Backup_test_iPhone is created. To ensure that TNAS mobile performs incremental backups correctly, you need to sort your photos according to the album names on your phone and copy them to the corresponding album folders.

Thanks for your response!
Please return after error 2004 investigation.

On my side. I removed mobile app once again. deleted backup folder on NAS. Set setting on iphone "keep oroginal size for photo" in Photo app setting (that copied original pictures back to phone disk from icloud). And executed backup procedure once again in TNAS mobile 3 app. Will let you know about the final result soon. tks

Just to confirm that after steps above, all photos successfully backed up to NAS via TNAS mobile 3 app on iphone.

Seems that problem was with files that were in compressed size on iphone (and full size on icloud drive). Those files couldnt be transferred and mistakes appeared in statistic.

The same approach for google (samsung phone) i suppose.

Wish you all the best!

Good day! maybe someone can advise me - how can I download prepared archive from https://privacy.apple.com/ and https://takeout.google.com/ directly to TNAS ? I mean to avoid the way that I download firstly archive to laptop and after that copy it to TNAS via Samba. Maybe it's possible to open apple and google web pages on TNAS and download prepared archives directly to TNAS device? Should I use any download apps for this exercise?
Thank you for advice!

P.S. The main idea is to optimize download time of 100-200 gigabyte data from apple/google cloud to TNAS storage.

File Manager on TOS supports direct file downloads using http/https links, so perhaps you can download data to the NAS directory this way.
