TOS Volume broken, need Access for Volume with Files

Post by DaveRockZ »

Hi,

I hope I am correct at this point. I have the F210 NAS with 2 hard drives. The hard drive with TOS broke yesterday. On the 2nd hard drive were the data.

Before:
Bay1 - 640 GB with TOS (broken)
Bay2 - 8 TB with the Files

After:
Bay1 - 500 GB with new TOS
Bay2 - 8 TB same with the old setup.

Tos works great. The System found also the 8 TB. But i can not use it. If i want great a Datapool it will format everthing. How i can solve this problem? I would be very grateful for any clue to the solution!

May I know what kind of RAID settings for your previous two drives? both on single or on RAID 1?
What happened to your first drive? and what did you do after the drive defected. Actually, there is another system backup on your second drive, if you remove your defective drive, you can boot your system with the second drive, of cause your second drive needs to be healthy.

I think I chose Raid1 on the old setup.

The broken drive make noises and clacks.

If i want boot the 8 TB drive alone, it will install TOS and at the end will it delete everthing. That was the reason to use a new drive for TOS. i hope i could explain it well. my english is technically not so good.

I see now.
I'm afraid the file system on your previous hard drive is corrupted. That is why your TNAS failed to recognize files on your drive.
You need to try to repair your file system for your drive, if you fail to do that, you may need to contact a third-party data recovery service provider for help.

Just to be sure: The 8TB drive was not broken. I need to repair it?

I was hoping that TOS would recognize that I had used it before.

For some unknown reasons, the file system may be corrupted. You can contact our tech team and ask help from them to try to repair for you if you are not similar with such repair tools. It's hard to tell if it can be fixed right now.

Yes, I had just looked at the hard drive in the desktop me with Kali Linux. That also tells me something about corrupted file system.

I now have both hard drives back in the NAS. The hard disk with the files is fortunately not broken itself. Maybe something can be done.

I would very much like to have help. SSH I tried yesterday and with my own account I get in. But the access with root it does not accept my password?! I do not make any further attempts because I do not want to break anything.

Can you give me a contact from technical support? Thanks a lot!

I am recovering something similar...
This is what I did; you may try at your own risk...

1) Insert one (new-HDD) only; in bay-01; and do a CLEAN TOS installation...
2) Enable (SSH & telnet) services within the (control panel)...
3) (after startup) insert your (RAIDxx); in extra bays (2,3,4,5) depending on your model...
4) Follow Article | viewtopic.php?f=79&t=2575
>>> However note the following:
a) Your data volume(s) is now one higher... (so revise article as follows)
b) (m0 >> m1) | (vg0-lv0 >> vg1-lv1) | (Volume1 >> Volume2)
c) I think best to check filesystem; before mounting; so can be done offline...
d) now is a good time for Terramaster support in case can't mount volume
e) Once your data is mounted; backup data via (USB3 drive) (Formated exFAT)...
