TOS 5.1 Beta is released for testing NOW!

Post by TMSupport »

TerraMaster released new TOS 5.1 Beta featuring new functions and improved performance. Highlight new functions and improvements include upgraded system kernel, more powerful 4K hardware decoding, USB storage pool expansion, Hyper Cache, smarter system message notifications, USB Storage Management, optimized Docker Manager, higher AI computing performance and so on.

Key New Features and Improvements

1. Upgraded kernel with higher performance
The TOS 5.1 kernel has been updated from 4.19 to 5.15. Compared to the previous generation kernel, TOS 5.1 Beta optimized EXT4/Btrfs/NTFs file systems and SMB3 file server, used ext4/f2fs/ubifs file system encryption in the encryption API, enabled Apple M1 SoC functionality under Linux and added USB 4 interface support, which greatly improved the performance and security of file system.

2. More powerful 4K hardware decoding
The new hardware decoding driver for Intel Jasper Lake GPU is added, which will significantly improve 4K video hardware decoding capability for TerraMaster NAS.

3. The USB storage pool expansion
By connecting TerraMaster USB disk array, users can easily expand the storage space of the storage pool for TNAS. It supports TRAID/RAID 0/RAID 1/RAID 5/RAID 6 array mode and provide 10Gb storage bandwidth. Compared with eSATA or mini SAS expansion enclosures, TerraMaster USB expansion enclosures are more economical and more convenient.

4. Higher performance cache acceleration
TerraMaster Hyper Cache is TerraMaster unique SSD cache acceleration tool. Hyper Cache can provide up to 3 cache modes to choose from to suit different usage needs, and can also create disk arrays for SSDs to increase cache speed and security. Such configuration delivers high-speed storage that’s ideal for video editing.

5. Smarter Message Level Notifications
TOS 5.1 Beta optimizes system messages and divides message notifications into four levels: information, success, error, and warning. Each level of messages is marked with a more eye-catching symbol of different colors. User can always keep track of any abnormalities in the system and ensure the security of the system and data.

6. More efficient USB storage management
TOS 5.1 fully optimizes the mounting of USB partitions. The system will record the path of the last mounted USB partition. When re-mounting next time, the original path will be allocated first to provide more storage space for the use and backup of USB.

7. Optimized Docker Manager
TerraMaster launches updated version of Docker Manager and updates the Docker engine to 20.10.17 version. The optimized interface brings it in line with users’ aesthetics and usage habits. Container deployment is more flexible and TerraMaster NAS utilization is optimized.

8. Higher AI computing performance
TOS 5.1 replaced the more powerful Intel OpenVINO AI computing engine, combined with the new Terra Photos application, the intelligent photo recognition efficiency increased by 30%. Terra Photo is designed for home users and photography enthusiasts to manage photo storage, share and access photos from anywhere.

Applicable models: The Beta version released this time is only applicable to some TNAS models in X.86 series (221 series, 421 series, 422 series, 223 series, 423 series);

Applicable TOS: 5.0.176 or a later version;

Precautions:
1. A beta version is an early version of a program that contains most of the main features, but is not yet complete and may have some bugs or defects. The beta version is only released to a select group of people, or to the general public, for testing and feedback;
2. The Beta version is not suitable for use in work or production environments. If your TNAS device is running business or storing important data, please do not participate in this test program;
3. TOS 5.1 is not ready for the following models(Model: F2-220/F2-420/F4-220/F4-420/F5-420) , and users of these models should not update your TOS to 5.1!
4. TOS 5.1 Beta requires a new version of TNAS PC (Windows OS: V5.0.x / macOS: V5.0.x) and TNAS Mobile (Android: V3.1.x / iOS: V3.1.x).

How to update to TOS 5.1 beta?
1. Download the update package: TOS 5.1(md5: e06ef290cb4f35bba83c6f209f34ffef)
2. Go to TOS > Control Panel > General Settings > system;
3. Under the "Manual update", upload the update package;
4. Click "Apply";
5. After the system update is complete, you need to refresh your web browser;
6. Your TNAS's IP address may change after the system update, if you are not able to connect to your TNAS with the previous IP, you need to search the new IP again with the TNAC PC client;

Performance degraded for SMB.

With TOS 5.1, large file copies (1GB or more) read and write between 150MB/s to 200MB/s. On the previous version read and write speeds were ~500MB/s. Doing a directory walk to verify files between a PC and a NAS takes about 100x longer.

I verified the hardware network connections are 10gb.

The NASIPS process is stuck at 101% CPU utilization.

Are we still pretending the arm models don't exist? Why can't you just come out say one way or the other instead of just ignoring these questions?

Re: TOS 5.1 Beta Problem with HDD and Network LED's After Upgrade

Post by andrewfarquhar »

Hello all,

I installed the 5.1 upgrade on my Terramaster F5-420 and now the LEDs for the HDD's are red and the network LED is not illuminated.

However, It functions normally and doesn't indicate any problem when I log in.

Is there any way I can fix this?
