Update, despite my earlier posts, I can now confirm Smart Fan Control is broken, setting fan to high is the only setting where I can be (90%) confident it won't drop to 10RPM.
I can confirm that Low-Mid-Hi fan speeds always work fine.
The problem occurs only with Smart fan speed: after some seconds\minutes the speed will be set to 10 RPM.
But this behavior is random, because now it works fine also with Smart fan speed setting (for at least 2 hours) and I don't know how to replicate this scenario.
My mid speed fan goes to 20 rpm after a while. Case is 34°C, HDD is 46°C (sometimes even higher). IMO medium should be medium speed all the time, not until a certain temperature is reached. Also smart should take a look at the HDDs too, not Just the case temperature. Just my two cents.
The lock ups are not limited to using internal tools I was copying a few gigs of data using AFP last night in 2 or 3 different threads and the nas locked up more than once but luckily for me it didn’t need a reboot just to wait for a few minutes
I copied 1.5 gigs over SFTP without issue yesterday. Maybe wasn't large enough to lock the system up, but worked fine for me. 4.2.17 with the patch applied.
as you were reading from your TNAS and writing to your USB, This is probably because your USB device was not responding, causing the system to keep sending requests but not responding, and thus it hangs temporarily.

After overheating my HDD I update my T5-422 from 4.2.16 to 4.2.17. And I keep eye on temperatures on system and in beatween HDD add digital termometer. I see that HDD temperature in TOS system is 54C but on digital termometer 42C. System temperature 46C. Fans ar on maximum speed. Ambiant teperature is 22C. Something wrong here... In system I think disk temperature just stuck...
You need to install the patch, its here viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2640
The enclosure speed (Digital Thermometer) will be lower than your drive temperature due to heat dissipating from the enclosure, inside the enclosure, heat cannot escape. (like coolant in a car can be 115C, while temperature of piston head would be around 2-3x higher.)
