Re: TOS 4.2.11 - PLEX issue

Post by chalnoth » 03 May 2021, 07:26

After upgrading my F4-422 from 4.2.09-P6 to 4.2.11 my PLEX install was broken. After uninstalling and re-installing I ended up with a 'fresh' installation that had no configuration.

After investigation I saw that it had created a new install under a new path.

My original path configuration was under /plex/home/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
The new install path was /plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/

Taking a punt, I uninstalled PLEX, moved the original installation folder from under home to under plex and re-installed PLEX. Everything came good.

Probably a horrible work-around that will bite me at some point but good enough for me for now. Sharing here in case anyone else runs in to the same problem.

Thanks for providing this info. Why did the TM team have to go about messing with the install folder? It had been reported on the beta's that there were issues with Plex home directory moving, yet they still thought it was a good idea to release a final version with this issue. This is frustrating. Are they going to decide to move it again on the next version?

Just updated F2-421, it worked flawlessly for my needs, but, I need to stress that I don't use Plex, as I'm a Kodi fan, neither do I need to use Docker. MariaDB, Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox, Box all sync and work perfectly. Also ClamAntivirus, Transmission is updated and functional.

updated manually to 4.2.11, reenabled SSH via the GUI and changed port back to 22, logged in via SSH using admin@NAS… all OK
Docker containers running OK (i use docker-compose via The CLI)

tried to access plex, no library
go back to TOS gui, open applications, Plex, uninstall, wait, reinstall,
go back to ssh,
sudo -i
cd /home/plex
mv Library Library.New
mv home/* .
Start Plex from application interface
wait while configuring
everything working eventually, about 10 minutes and a few refreshes
SMB working, AFP working

+1 for Kodi.

Did you previously have any issues with Google Drive sync?
It smashed my CPU utilization to the point of crashing docker.

I don't use One Drive, but Dropbox seems ok for me. Google Drive was the one that caused me pain.

Yes, I believe all sync apps had (have?) the bug as they use the same backend I believe. I managed to get around the bug by uninstalling and reinstalling all "sync" apps. They retained all settings on reinstall so it was pretty painless.
To see if you're still affected just open the app in TOS, and check your CPU usage, it should already spike.

I believe it happened with the original 4.2.09 update.
