Upgrading from Broken Unit - Help

Post by tommyraptor »

Hi,

We had a F2-220 with 2 drives in it, we came in the other morning and the unit displayed a red LED on HDD1 and HDD2, the LAN was totally off. We could not get to the unit at all via IP, almost like the motherboard on the unit died, not sure though. We tried calling tech support and just get a disconnected message when we call.

So we did a bit of research and saw a FS-221 2 bay unit for sale on Amazon, a user had mentioned he had a FS-220 fail, he pulled the drives out of it and put in the FS-221 and he was able to get to his data. So when we move the drives over and try that same thing it asks us which type of RAID we want to create, we are afraid to go any further because we don't want to "zap" the drives and lose our data.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation? We have some Synology NAS devices and this has happened and its pretty easy with those, just switch them out and we were back in business which is what we tried to do here but we are stuck.

Thanks in advance.

What's the version of TOS when the hard drives were installed in F2-220?
Since you are at RAID format window now, it's better to let our engineer check it for you first. You can confirm with support(at)terra-master.com about the remote session.

Has this been resolved?

I'm in the same boat. I've had a F2-220 fail. Purchased a F2-221 and it wants to create a new raid and format the drives. The drives tested good.

An amazon comment said this should work.

Usually, the hard drives in F2-220 could be used directly in F2-221 without formatting. While please ensure that the hard drives and RAID are healthy. If it asks you to format RAID, it's suggested to let our engineer help you by remote session first. You can ask this service by sending email to support(at)terra-master.com
