can't copy to NAS some files, strange error

Post by epiq »

Hi,

I faced with inability to copy certain files to TNAS F5-421. In messages log I see this:

Code: Select all

I've tested with other files - everything passing fine.
No idea why it mentioning Apple, because client is Windows 10, server on

Code: Select all

$ uname -a
Linux TNAS 4.13.16 #270 SMP Mon Nov 25 17:12:13 CST 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Intresting observation, such issue affects just some of "*.jpg|*.jpeg|*.png|*.tiff" and ".*" files - seems all of them were originally created on Apple devices, but at the moment there laying on Windows pc and I can do everything with them, expect moving to terramaster NAS volume.

Any ideas how it can be fixed?

ps: I've tried already to look for their attributes, and there are nothing worth to mention, no attributes except "archive". I've tried to unset and copy, but got the same error.

I've found similar bug report in Samba:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14275
maybe it's related ...

Anyway I would like to get any feedback from terramaster support.

This is a long shot but have you tried disabling AFP support and Bonjour discovery in the TNAS settings? Both are enabled by default and if you have no Apple Mac devices using it then it should be safe to disable, at least to test if it works.

Well, actually i do have Mac users with TimeMachine enabled, but just to be sure i'll try to test such workaround and update you.

Maybe unrelated but from what I've seen lately my files have been corrupt (try copying them to a new destination) or my device has needed to be reattached (USB ones (so try eject)).

Disabled both AFP&Bonjour - no effect at all, same error.
i.e. it looks like those files somehow different.

Found one crazy workaround:

1.create zip archive with those files
2.move archive outside of folder there files resides
3.copy to NAS
4.extract on NAS

without step 2, step 3 also producing same error.
i.e. seem's like those .DS folders with files from Mac somehow broken, and while Windows able to handle it, Samba doesn't ...

May I know the exact current TOS version ? We have been reported for this issue in former version, while it should have been fixed now.
