Enabling SSD cache reboots NAS but volume does not show it enabled

Post by blueberry »

Hello,

I have a F2-420 NAS. I have a single 12TB hdd and a 250GB SSD.

I built the storage pool and volume from the 12TB hdd. I planned to use the 250GB SSD for cache.

When I try enabling SSD cache the NAS reboot and comes up with a error about abnormal shutdown. When I check the volume stats it still shows disabled. Note that this NAS was recently installed.

Thanks!

It seems the SSD cache failed during configuring. The SSD cache does not work on your SSD. What is your SSD brand and model by the way? and what is your file system? EXT 4 or Btrfs?

To get your TNAS back to work, please disable the SSD cache, remove your SSD and restart your TNAS.

Hi TMroy thanks for replying.

The file system is "Btrfs" and the sdd is a "Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB".

Luckily the NAS just rebooted itself and came back up with out issue. I do see on the filesystem that is formated the drive.

Disk /dev/sdb: 232.9 GiB, 250059350016 bytes, 488397168 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: 073CCCC9-1FA6-4C9B-82DF-D53AA773A0E9

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sdb1 2048 161171455 161169408 76.9G Linux filesystem
/dev/sdb2 161171456 322342911 161171456 76.9G Linux filesystem
/dev/sdb3 322342912 488396799 166053888 79.2G Linux filesystem

Is there a list of compatible drives? Does it matter that my hdd is in slot 1 and the SSD is in slot 2?

Thanks!

Hi blueberry,
"Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB" has not been tested. The approved model is "Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB".
We need to check with product team if it is possible to varify the SSD model you are using now.

The happened issue has nothing to do with drive slot, the only possible may be the SSD compatibility.
So you already removed your SSD and your TNAS properly restart and work now, right?
