USB Access via SMB TOS 4.39

Post by rocketron51 »

Hi,

Are there any plans to implement access to attached USB devices via SMB in TOS 4.39 ?

I simply cannot understand why access to USB devices is only allowed by administrators and only by SFTP. I Have tried sending files over SFTP using Winscp and it is horrendously slow. I had a play with TOS 5 and access to USB devices via SMB had been implemented, so please can we have it in TOS 4.39 .

My system is a F5-221 running TOS 4.39

Why you do not update your system to TOS 5?

@TMroy,

I have tried to update to TOS5 on several occasions, the main problem for not updating is that I have a F5-221 which has 5 bays everytime I put a drive in bay 4 and make a storage pool and volume on that drive after a restart the volume section of control panel says the "Volume Corrupted". This also happens with bay 5. I have commented on this before but nothing seems to have been done about it. I suppose I could connect the drives via USB but that defeats the object of a 5 bay NAS.

Does this also happen with volume corruption after installing TOS 4.2?
Will there be a problem if the hard drives of other bays are put into 4-bay and 5-bay and then turned on?
Did you create volumes and storage pools after you installed TOS 5?

No Not at all, all 5 bays are filled and no volume corruption

Yes I created Storage Pool and Volume under TOS 5.0.28 then after a restart Volume is corrupted

I am going to try and use a different drive just in case its the drive causing the problem.

@TMRyan or @TMroy

I have tried a different drive and still the same experience.

Create Storage Pool (restarted Storage Pool changes from 6 to 2) create Volume on the Storage Pool restarted Volume Corrupted

I give up I just dont understand how every drive works perfectly in TOS 4.2.39

BTW I think the restart countdown should change from 5mins to 10mins

I think the problem might be when you create a storage pool.

When you create a Storage Pool on a single drive it automatically creates a Storage Pool number 6

When you restart that Storage Pool gets changed to the next available pool which in my case is Storage Pool 2

I think that when you create the Volume on Storage Pool 6 then restart and the Pool gets changed to 2 the Volume is looking for Storage Pool 6 and cant find it cos it has been renamed to Storage Pool 2 and consequently thinks that the Volume is Corrupted
