Clarity on raid 5

Post by we87 »

I am trying to make sure I fully understand.

Raid 5 with five 4tb drives in a f5-221.

If I upgrade to five 10tb HDDs I can do so, one by one, install then rebuild then install then rebuild until all five have been 4tb have been replaced by 10tb drives and then after they are all installed I have the ability to expand the storage pool to then accept the new free storage space. Is this correct?

Also, just so I make sure I understand correctly - if I have five 4tb drives and replace two with 10tb drives - that I will not see the additional storage unless I upgrade all five 4tb drives. Because even though I would have two 10tb drives I will be limited by the existing three 4tb and raid 5 will see all five drives as 4tb - is this also correct?
