[Help] New NAS cannot read from my old system  [SOLVED]

Post by eric2 »

Hello,

I had a failed F4-220 and i purchased a replacement F4-425.

I had 2 RAID1 going on 4 disks, when i plugged in my old drive to the new NAS, everything started up fine but it was running the outdated TOS ver4, so i wanted to upgrade it (now regretting that decision!)

I couldn't upgrade by doing a manual install of a downloaded TOS ver 5 so i did a factory reset as i read it needed before upgrading. To my surprise the NAS booted to a screen asking me where to install the new TOS and gave me a warning that it would erase the data on the disk!!

Of course i did not proceed, i used a spare disk to install the TOS and am now plugging in my RAID1 sets one set at at time to recover my data.

The new NAS read one of my RAID1 fine and i can access all the data, the other set it can see that volume is used up but i cannot read the files.

Would you be able to help me with recovering the data from this 2nd set of RAID1? I don't want to try other things that would risk me loosing that data.

Many Thanks

Hello, yes i was able to recover my data using the advance option in shared folders on the RAID1 set that showed only volume but no files, i was able to copy everything out. Thank you for your help.

Just for information, i then went ahead to install the new version of the TOS after i copied the data and it really did wipe everything from the drive.
