[Help] TRAID Storage Pool Corrupted. What are my options?

Post by diem1000000 »

I recently bought a F6-424 and have a mixture of old drives set up in all 6 bays. Two of the drives are 4tb Ironwolfs that I had in my previous QNAP that are about 3 years old.

I set up the 424 with 4 drives initially in TRAID knowing I could expand later and this would allow me to run both old and new nas simultaneously to transfer my data.

Data transfer went fine and so I added the first 4tb Ironwolf. No issues here. The second 4tb Ironwolf was identified as at risk by TOS due to a few bad sectors after I had added that to the storage pool. I then got a warning saying the raid was degraded and to replace the disk.

I ordered an 8tb Ironwolf which arrived next day and I pulled the bad 4th and inserted the 8tb. However, now the options menu to repair or expand the raid is not available.

I then took out the 8tb and put the 4tb back in wondering if I needed to repair and then replace the drive? No luck. At this point all my files were still visible to me.

It was then I looked at the TOS user guide which said to switch off the nas, replace the drive, and switch back on and I should be able to repair the raid. Only now, the nas tells me there is no storage pool/volume set up and no matter how many times I reboot or swap out the drives, it appears my raid is dead.

I have reached out to Terramaster support with log files but no response in 2 days.

I haven't written anything to the drives or tried anything destructive so I'm hopeful my data is still there. Realistically, what are my options here?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I can still see the Storage Pool in TOS which is saying the Raid is corrupted. However the edit button to repair/expand is greyed out. The Volume is no longer visible. TOS keeps asking me to create a volume but I suspect this would wipe all my previous data?

Hi Cursa.

I had a response from Clem today asking for more info. I attached the file generated by the Nas (zip file) to my original email sent on the 14th.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just to post that after speaking with Clem via email and then Kyrie and Owen via the live chat feature, I had a remote session with Frank this morning and he managed to fix this issue after about 1 hour 30 mins of running commands in terminal. Thanks to the support team for sorting this for me.

While my files are now available again I am still unable to edit the storage pool to be able to expand/replace a disk etc.

I also have unused space in my volume but don't think I will max it out yet in case the raid becomes unavailable again as a result. Will buy a new HDD to back up to using Duple and then maybe start from scratch.
