Files loss when transferring files over FTP

Post by TerraNAS92 »

Hi everyone,

I am posting this to see if anyone else has a problem like mine with his TerraMaster.

I am running a TerraMaster F2-422 with TO5 5 latest version.

I have created a folder inside my user "home" account.

I send files to this folder from ym computer using FTP.
My computer is a desktop computer running Arch Linux.
Software used to transfer files is FileZilla.

The TerraMaster is connected to computer with the 10GBPe port.
That goes directly into the computer that has a QNAP PCIe card that adds a 10GBPe port to the computer.

I can connect to the NAS from the computer with no problems.
I can transfer files to the NAS from the computer with ALMOST no problems.
Transfer speed is more than decent (I'd say about 230Mb/s average to copy files to a RAID0 pool of 2 X 4TB drives).

BUT : I often have transfer fails for some files (like 300 files not transfered on the batch of 7500 files).

AND it happens pretty often that after 3000 or 4000 files the connection to the NAS is simply lost and I can't transfer anything to it anymore...

Any idea as to why this happens ?

Reagrds.

Just to add some specifics about my problem :

- it looks like I am constantly disconnected from Server (after 20 seconds of no activity).
- it does not happen with the other interface (but it is only 1Gbps).

This is really weird it seems :-(

Regards.

Hi,

Sorry, have to keep answering to myself as I don't think t(his forum allows to edit previous messages.
If it does, I have not found it :-(

Anyways, it has now grown IMPOSSIBLE to send any files to the NAS over the Ethernet 10GBPe port.

FileZilla keeps saying : "Error 421. Connection closed. Too many connections from this IP address".

No idea why this happens :-(

If someone with higher skills than mine would be so kind and try to help me out...

I do not wish to be forced to use the 1gbps port when I have 10GBPS one :-(

Hi,

OK. I may sound a little not really patient.

But I experience nothing but problems with this NAS.

If I reboot, I can transfer a lot of files without problems.

But after some minutes, it is simply not possible to transfer files over the 10Gbpe interface anymore...

It is not only slow.
It keeps getting disconnected.

1GBPs interface is OK. And works constantly.

So my conclusion is quite simple : it looks like there is a problem with the 10Gbpe inteface on my NAS.
Or maybe this is a genreral problem with TerraMaster 10Gbpe interfaces ?

I'll try to go back to TOS 4.2.40.
I think it was working a little better...

Same behaviour with TOS4.

Disconnected after file transfer of several files...

No way to reconnect.

So maybe not compatible with my 10Gbpe PCIe card ?

Not sure what is happening, but for sure THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY...

And will probably justify that the F2-422 goes back to Amazon.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.

I made my homework :-)

It looks like you have to limit the number of connections in FileZilla.
I found a setting that is quite acceptable :
- number of connections to NAS limited to 2 connections ;
- number of simultaneous transfers set to 2 also.

That allows to achieve a transfer speed of 320 to 330 MB/s average. And with peaks at 440MB/s which I think is acceptable on a NAS of 2 hard disk drives.

So I guess I'll stick to that setting and experiment a little further to see if I can improve speeds and of share results here.

But I never had to touch those settings on my previous QNAP NAS... That is why I was surprised. So maybe you could investigate that nonetheless ?

Thanks for your attention.

Regards.

Hi,
Unfortunately, this does not work anymore.
Today I tried to transfer about 5600 music files to the NAS.
I even boight 2 brand new Seagate IronWolf hard drives to try to see if the problem was with defective drives.

It transferred 5200 files.

Then it says "The file xxxx does already exist".
I choose to replace it...

And there : "Connection closed" send 1 file. "Connection closed". Send 1 file. "Connection closed" Send 1 file... This can take about 3 days to complete.

I NEVER (I emphasize the "NEVER") ran into those problems with exactly the same hardware excpet the NAS when I was using a NAS from another brand... that I now regret to have replaced.

Despite the nice price promotional price I got on Amazon last week, I can not justify spending 300€ in a device that simply does not work as it should.

Or maybe I got a defective device...

Anyways, it will go back to Amazon.

Regards.

And of course, once this happens there is no way out unless I reboot the NAS. Which takes 5 minutes each time with TOS5.

I do not know if it is possible but can I maybe have a defective device ?

Hi,

As a follow-up it seems that with some help from the TM Support, I have been able to find settings that will allow to transfer files without any loss.

As per request I'll post the settings in a separate post in this "Requested features" section as I do not have access to other sections :-)

Regards.
