Seagate IronWolf 6TB NAS HD Freezing in F2-421

Post by dsaul »

Hi. My new Seagate IronWolf 6TB NAS HD is freezing (locking-up / going offline) in my new F2-421. It happens by itself when not being used, and it also happens in the middle of copying files, etc. I am forced to hold down the power button until it finally shuts off. I am using the latest TNAS PC software and my F2-421 has the latest firmware. I have the sleep setting set to Never.

I am running Windows 10 Pro and have tried running my NAS with one and with two Cat6 cables. Help. Thanks!

did you get this resolved with support? I'm having the exact same issue with 6tb drives in my F5-221.

I have a similar issue with the same drives: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=631

It seems that whatever I do, the system hangs when using my Ironwolf drives. They worked fine in the F4-220 (until that thing fried itself). It's crazy how this NAS doesn't work with NAS drives!

Tested some more and it seems this also appears with other drives, but still curious if your issue has been resolved.

I've got 4 x 4TB Ironwolf drives in my F5-221 and have never seen this happen, what TOS version are you running on?

I'm using 4.1.27, but it happened on 4.1.21 too.

I have 2 F5-420 NAS with (5) 12 TB Seagate Iron Wolf Drives in Each, both have been upgraded to 8GB RAM, and they were both stable until this recent TOS. 1 had been running continuously since February, the other since last October. Since the TOS upgrade however, (forced by a recent upgrade in Plex), neither system remains stable, and they freeze to the point of having to Physically force a power down to reset. Because of the Freeze, there are no log entries to give any indication of what happened. TOS Version is: 4.1.27-2006301044. If Anyone has any insights to this, it would be appreciated, as these drives are used both for work and home entertainment, and the freeze is very annoying.

This is a bit of a long shot, but try removing the ram upgrade in one of them if you can and see if that makes any difference. I only suggest this as I believe the developers have changed some of the code that calculates available RAM and just maybe this is causing an issue in your setup? I had issues with my F5-221 reporting a negative value in the total available RAM, I had an 8GB memory stick installed on top of the onboard 2GB but the web interface reported a negative ram value! I've put a 4GB stick in now and all seems to be ok for the moment. I haven't tested the 8GB stick since 4.1.28 was released so maybe it's fixed there. Could be worth you upgrading to 4.1.28 as well?

I have had 8gig of RAM in my F5-221 for some time running the last three TOS versions and had not problems other than the main screen reporting high CPU and High RAM usage along with warning logs saying CPU has been over 90% on several occasions but no problems recently.
