A few days ago I suddenly lost SMB access and the device threw an alarm and alert about raid exception, now It takes almost 3 minutes to log in to TNAS and it has said RAID ynchronisation for the last 4 days, surely that's not right is it??

Hello, it seems that your array is abnormal, please go to the control panel to check whether the SMB service is enabled? Can you provide us with screenshots of storage pools and volumes?

yes I already populated the workgroup field but it just stayed blank, I suspect there is a hard drive issue as its been stuck on 1% synchronizing, so will check that later

I have been away for a while. The NAS is working as expected after changing from BTRFS to EXT4 however the issue with the blank workgroup persits. is there a solution to this?

Please try to clean the browser cache. Collect a log, download it and send it to us to check whether there are obvious problems.
