New F5-422 unresponsive after initialization

Post by SteveA »

New F5-422 with 5 of 4TB Iron Wolf drives also new, all pass SMART basic test.
After several times trying to get through initialization, it finally seemed to succeed - then locked up before I could change any settings at all.
Upon reboot it shows up briefly on the PC app, but disappears.
It does not respond to ping.
I tried the page http://192.168.0.102:8181/tos/index.php as well as http://192.168.0.102:8181

Yesterday I started this process...
At the end it said my drive(s) needed to be initialized...

This morning...
I booted one of my PCs to linux
I ran the basic SMART test suite on each drive.
I scrubbed each partition (dd from urandom for about a gigabyte) and then the partition table.
Created a new gpt table with no partitions and re-installed the drives.

This time got further...
After waiting for 3 hours stuck reporting 91% done formatting the raid 5 array to ext4...
3 hours with no sign of anything happening on a screen that claims 20 minutes tops to finish.
I restarted initialization again after turning the unit off...
This time it seemed to sail through identifying the drives, testing them, setting up the raid 5 array.
I finally saw (I think) the file manager screen for a few moments before it became unresponsive.

I am willing to give this a few more tries, but am very underwhelmed at this point. It is a bad first impression.
I would love to find I have just missed something simple.

So, is there any way to download previous versions of firmware to try?
I see others having problems with 4.2.32...
Not really a surprise that trying again didn't produce any different results.

Thanks - I've been involved in a chat with support, but it is worth updating this...

The device successfully configured with a single drive.
I added another drive and migrated to RAID 1 - took overnight, but was working and stable after that.
I added another drive and started to migrate to RAID 5 - which said it would take most of a day to do...

But it crashed again before about 3 hours, and I am back to the original situation again.
Speculation is that I may have a defective power supply, a replacement is being sent.
