TOS doesn't (down)load after firmware reset

Post by mds_iz »

I had a problem and have a solution.
I tell this in spite of someone other running into the same problem.

I set up a TNAS F2-221 with no problems but was not satisfied with the result so I did a firmware reset and wanted to start from the beginning.
The firmware reset ran and the device restartet. The hdds were reported as ok and I had the choice to download a TOS update online or chose a TOS version from my hard disk. Both versions did not run either.
Sometime the system stopped download after 6 % another time after 12 % and so on.
I removed the two hard drives, connected them one by another to my pc and killed every partition (4 were created by the TNAS).
Then I put back the harddrives to the TNAS - et voila - the TOS installation ran without any problems.

I hope this will help. Greetings to all - Mark

I got one of these (F2-221) for myself to play out some server updates in my home lab, just as close to home stockpiling for some youth recordings my dad as of late changed over. I arrangement upper leg tendon standards, just as firewall rules on my Unifi USG-Ace. The main thing I empowered was TNAS.online (as far as outer confronting highlights). Around fourteen days into its life, the TNAS began arbitrarily rebooting around evening time. I checked the auto reboot settings, nothing. Odd, so I screen the shell for a night after 1am. As I'm observing, an interaction called xrmin (and a couple of others) is executed and devours 100% of the extra computer processor. Because of my firewall leads, the subsequent traffic isn't leaving the organization, so I'm accepting the reboot is a piece of the safeguard component of this crypto-mining paired?

I let this happen again prior to choosing to intercede. Predictably, at precisely 1am once more, this interaction is instated and quickly burns-through 100% of the computer processor. I start a kill <PID> order, and kill the cycle. The CLI promptly expresses a "the framework is going down for reboot now!" styled message ( which was called by another PID that I can just accept that is the thing that screens the uprightness of the cryptomining specialist/administration - called xrmon). Upon reboot, would you be able to speculate what is absent from the gadget now? The cryptominer - Gracious and furthermore the entirety of my information. The drive was totally undermined. Fortunately, I additionally have an off-premise reinforcement because of Backblaze S3... I would be missing many hours worth of work and long periods of recollections from one basic, modest, and unstable NAS!

I chose to investigate this and found another analyst who encountered a comparative cryptominer on his machine, and gave pictures - an issue that was posted in 2019. I'm accepting that my case is somewhat unique on the grounds that my firewall rules forestalled the cryptominer from any entrance/departure information, and any information from it's C2 (which is encoded through Peak, so I didn't have a lot of karma observing who is dependable) couldn't be communicated or gotten.

I chose not to call specialized help, since I definitely need an alternate NAS. I will not buy a single thing from Land Expert once more, and will be returning this right away. I would suggest, if Land Expert at any point peruses these, that they utilize 2fa on the TNAS.online administration, just as get their Android Application marked on the grounds that it triggers my Sophos Capture X which is returning as a "PUA"... I'm as yet uncertain how this crypto became, yet I'm thinking it was pre-stacked on this gadget on the grounds that the main time this had the option to associate with the web inside was the point at which I was checking for firmware updates.... Purchaser be careful.

Such a complicated post. Why can't things be simpler?
Your TNAS seems to be hacked and be used to be a mining machine. I think this guideline should also apply to your situation.
