Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
There is no official state that the WD120EMFZ is RED. By instead, what I know is, this drive is downgraded from 14TB 7200RPM to 12TB 5400RPM by shielding bad sectors and replacing firmware. This is why it is being sold in black market with very cheap price. Again, this is not recommended hard drive...

Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
Is this a "white label" desktop hard drive from WD? My understanding is that they're basically the same as WD Red HDDs - i.e. 5400RPM helium filled drives that are suitable for NAS use. I'd previously used some of the same drives in RAID5 in a 3-bay QNAP NAS. Other than the limited bays a...

Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
I've just had another crash - this time it lasted for nearly 13 hours of normal use transferring and accessing files before falling over.

Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
I ended up cancelling the full format part way through wiping the first drive because of the excessive time it was taking to complete the process - based on the progress indicator it would take well over 24 hours per 12tb drive. Instead I just deleted the partitions in Windows disk management and pe...

Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
My concern is that the NAS had been in use for the best part of a day before any error occurred. I'd done some testing and moved a few Tb of data over to the drive before it crashed. It's hard to replicate that continuous usage with the small SSD. That said, I've been running with just the SSD for a...

Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
Do you know of any way to easily stress test the SSD rather than just transferring files over? That's what I'm doing at the moment, but as it's only a 500Gb drive it's filled pretty quickly. I can't just leave it transferring all day/night without intervention to see if it crashes. Assuming I do nee...

Re: SSD Cache = slower transfer speed?
What I've tried so far: I removed all the drives and followed the testing with WD diagnostic software suggested in this FAQ - all 4 drives have passed the extended test without any errors. I started from scratch again with those drives, deleted everything, reformatted the RAID, installed the latest ...
