How to expand RAID 5 from smaller HD sizes
We're looking at getting a new Terramaster D5 and studying drive sizes. There was a question on how and whether we can expand the D5 Raid 5 volume if we started with smaller HDs. Say we use all 5 bays with 8TB and later on put in 14TB...can we expand the RAID volume without wiping everything out? So...

Re: Disappointed w TERRAMASTER D5 Thunderbolt 3
Just updating that Terramaster took care of my situation by replacing the contackerous D5 unit with a new one. So far no issues.

Re: RAID Critical and Unable to REBUILD
I agree the bad sectors may not be created by the enclosure itself but wouldn't you also agree that it seems odd that any new drive put into slot 1 is being shown as bad? These are new drives with no bad sectors to begin with. Then they start getting an increasing count and only in bay 1. As a test,...

Re: RAID Critical and Unable to REBUILD
This is going to be my 4th hard drive in this slot. Can you please help me obtain warranty service for this enclosure?

Re: Disappointed w TERRAMASTER D5 Thunderbolt 3
Also, I have checked the disk seating/connection to the enclosure. Not hearing anything with the drives. But whatever drive is in bay 1 is getting a lot of bad sectors. I swapped two of the drives when I nuked the RAID a while ago and it confirms the bay 1 issue.

Re: Disappointed w TERRAMASTER D5 Thunderbolt 3
They're the Seagate Barracuda Compute 8TB models...the unit is on a shelf with adequate ventilation and isn't next to any heat producing items. I'll have to figure out how to go about requesting a warranty replacement. Thanks for the advice.

Disappointed w TERRAMASTER D5 Thunderbolt 3
My RAID unit is eating through hard drives. Every hard drive I have put into slot 1 seems to get bad blocks within months of being added. I am on my third drive and am at wits end to this problem. I dont understand why this unit keeps eating hard drives. The HDs are all compatible and it's getting m...

Re: Advice for RAID 5 Critical
I ended up nuking the entire RAID. It was painful but I still cannot determine whether any hard drive actually failed other than the bad sector count on HD 1. In researching this issue, I have come to learn that HD Mfgs expect bad sectors but a steady count should not warrant the drive inop. I have ...
